RASMUS STOLBERG: No, we didn't. That's what we spent two years in the rehearsal room to find out. Many people call it electronica, and actually we never put a finger on electronic music before. So it all started for Efterklang in the year 2000 and forward. So we had no idea that this would be the result. When we work now, we know what we can do and what we want to do. We still experiment a lot. But when we started all we did was experimenting with forms and melodies and instruments especially. And sounds. It took two years to find this way.

RASMUS STOLBERG: We use our computers not just for beats. We mainly use them for giving atmosphere, and it can be the sound of water, the sound of people talking somewhere. It can be anything. Some of the sounds are generated sounds. Maybe they're generated out of someone banging a bottle and then you generate a sound of it and use it. And some of the sounds are recordings of people talking. When we went on travels, we always brought mini discs and microphones to record. Instead of bringing a camera we brought recording gears. And now we have this huge catalogue of sounds in our studio, so you can always find a strange sound in our studio, in the library. And now we don't go out so much anymore, because we have the sounds, but maybe we should try to do it again. It's a good thing when you travel, to record things, instead of taking pictures.

RASMUS STOLBERG: "Collecting shields" is a good song to describe what Efterklang is. Because "Collecting shields" is divided into two parts. The first one is very electronic, but still has a lot of singing and also a lot of percussion. And then the song changes and is almost only acoustic. Except from some noise made on computer. So in this "Collecting shields", you could almost call it an Efterklang rhapsody. Because in this "Collecting shields" we move in all spectres of our music in just one song.

RASMUS STOLBERG: We wanted it to be a word with lots of meanings like Efterklang is. Tripper is a Danish word and it's an English word. Tripper in Danish means several things. But first it means if you're waiting for something good to happen to you and you can't wait for it to happen, you get on your feet and do small jumps. Because you want that thing to happen to you and you can't wait. And that's called a tripper. Tripper means to do that. In English you have the word day-tripper, that's a good title for the album too. Someone travelling. Because that's what lot of our music can be described as: as travels, musical travels or something like that.

RASMUS STOLBERG: Efterklang is a Danish word for "remembrance". It is also a technical music word for "reverberation". And it's a word for remembrance at the same time. There are lots of good things to remember, it depends on who you are. I think everybody has something good to remember. If you don't have anything to remember you can always dream something up, that's what I recommend. Dream of something you don't know what are. Remembering things you don't know what is. That's kind of nice. You can remember feelings you don't know. You can remember feelings in your life and you can remember situations. That's kind of what I try to explain. When you remember back on your childhood, you can't actually remember specific details, but you can remember what you felt and how it was. Maybe you can remember pictures or lights or smells or a personal feeling, hopefully a good feeling. That's what I remember from my childhood.

RASMUS STOLBERG: A lot of the lyrics just explain a feeling, stages between sleeping and being awake. I don't know if you ever tried to dream but not sleep right before you fall asleep or right before you wake up. You can sometimes dream but at the same time you feel that you are not sleeping anymore. But you still dream. This is a very special feeling and stage. And I think actually many of the lyrics try to describe this feeling.
